It’s cheesy, it's crunchy, and every piece is like biting into a huge fluffy flavor cloud. (This must be what heaven tastes like)
I’m talking about Detroit Style Pizza yo, the far superior pizza as far as I’m concerned and you can fight me on this. Go ahead, change my mind.
But Jen, aren’t you from Detroit? Yes. And wouldn’t that make you a little biased? Also Yes. But listen, I’ve had my fair share of 'za's and nothing compares. Not even close.
Every stupid morsel is a delicious gift.
Here's why:
The shape may be square but the flavor is far from. Each pizza is baked in a deep cast iron like pan which allows the dough to cook ever so perfectly. Crispy on the outside - soft and airy on the inside. To make a proper pie you'll need Wisconsin brick cheese (melty and carmalized) and tomato sauce placed on top of the cheese, not below. Add whatever toppings you please and viola!
May I also mention these pans are small enough to allow corner pieces for everyone? I told you...it's perfect in every way.
So....who's responsible for this game-changer? All you haters can blame Buddy's Pizza restaurant in Detroit, MI. Buddy's began as a speakeasy in the early 30's but became better known for its take on Sicilian style pizza after it was added to their menu in 1946. The rest is, as they say, history!
So the next time pizza's on the menu give the ole Detroit Deep Dish a shot. I can guarantee that once you take a bite out of its buttery, light, crispy crust you will never look at pizza the same way again.
